This synth is based on the sound known from the 1980s (the FM revolution). It is a derivative of the Yamaha DX7; then a synthesizer with many innovative digital sounds, but then very snappy to program (who remembers the small buttons and LCD display). But cool vintage and history-worthy became the DX7! And now there is a Reface for enthusiasts!
The Reface DX is not quite comparable to the DX7. The original DX7 had six operators, this Reface has four. FM is famous for its characteristic metallic sounding sounds such as xylophone, marimba, chimes, vibraphone, horns, synthetic pianos and guitars. The Reface has good effects on board such as distortion, chorus and reverb. This makes the sounds sound even fatter. The unit is compact and has 37 mini-keys; if you want a larger keyboard, you can connect your own via DIN-MIDI. For a connection to a computer there is USB-MIDI connection.
The DX has a polyphony of eight, making it basically good for a single part. Depending on the FM algorithm, you can simulate multiple oscillators, so the greatness of the sound is variable.
