For years, the Yamaha Genos has been the undefeated king among keyboards and workstations (since 2017). After years of waiting, the Genos2 is finally available. The latest evolution in a long-running series of top keyboards that once began with the old and trusted Tyros 1.
Recreate your favorite songs and improvisations with over 800 styles and 1990 voices (!) of the highest quality. Whether you like orchestral music, schlager, country or dance music the Genos 2 has the style and sound for you. Navigate easily through the intuitive display and match the styles with the right voices to bring your ideas to life. Also, place multiple voices under the right hand and decide which sounds should sound when while playing. The large and clear LCD touchscreen immediately shows you which instruments are available to you and which style will be used. As you play, chords are also instantly displayed to support your musical creativity.
Powered by leading technology
Yamaha's flagship arranger workstation keyboard is packed with the company's latest analog, digital and hardware technology and will certainly continue to serve as a platform for future Yamaha keyboards. Although the original Genos was groundbreaking upon its introduction, technology is advancing. This successor incorporates the latest technology, user feedback and selected feature requests. Improvements over the original Genos include:
- Upgrade: 384-note max polyphony
- Upgrade: 1,990 voices + 75 Drum/SFX kits
- Upgrade: improved registration memory where you can also capture MIDI settings from external instruments
- Upgrade : 800 styles (accompaniment styles)
- New: FM tone generator
- New: Ambient Dums
- New: Steinberg REVelation Reverb
- New: Style Dynamics Control
- New : Built-in HDMI output (makes it easy to connect the Genos to an external display)
- New: Rec'n' Share App compatibility
- New: Bluetooth connectivity (so you play along with your favorite music without cables)
New: Style Dynamics Control
It's now even easier to influence the volumes and dynamics of your styles as you play. Create a calm and tranquil version of the original style with the turn of a knob and dial back the dynamics and energy at the drop. This makes it even easier to distinguish live between choruses and verses, for choruses and bridges or to create a rock-hard drop before the beginning of the chorus.
New: Ambient Drums
The drums, of course, are the foundation of any song, so they should sound great and lifelike. The space that drums are in does a lot to the sound and practical application of the drum sound. Ambient Drums allows you to determine the setting in which the drums can be heard with the turn of a knob. Direct, dry and punchy or far grand and rich from a very natural reverb.
New: Legendary FM Synths
The Genos2 has two sound engines including the AWN engine we are already used to, but now also an FM engine. The FM engine is of course familiar to Yamaha from their legendary DX7 synthesizer which to this day is still held in high regard as the true FM sound. You can now manufacture these sounds yourself directly in your Genos to get even closer to the real sound.
Improved Genos 2 hardware
The screen is angled in the instrument making it easier to read. You can also adjust the brightness. The screens have a so-called anti-glare technology so they remain readable from all angles.
Buttons and faders of the Genos 2 are equipped with new LEDs so you have even more control over the keyboard. Especially when it is dark, you can easily read the position of the (rotary) knobs and faders. There is an improved 76 FSX keyboard and the aftertouch is improved for a more realistic playing experience.
The best sounds
Yamaha's CFX and C7 concert grand pianos are truly stunning for their lifelike realism, especially with the new REVelation Reverb. The new Ambient Drums (recorded in world-class studios) also sound very realistic, using multidynamic sample layers and round-robin wave cycling to deliver the most breathtakingly realistic MIDI drums ever offered in a keyboard. Non-keyboard instruments are beautifully rendered by Yamaha's acclaimed Super Articulation 2 sound engine. All sounds benefit from multiple state-of-the-art effects engines. Complemented by extensive onboard MIDI and audio recording facilities and seamless DAW integration, the Yamaha Genos2 is the only top-of-the-line keyboard.
Easily record vocals
When it's time to record a professional vocal, just plug your (condenser) microphone into the XLR jack, switch on 48V phantom power, and you're ready to start recording a studio-quality signal chain whose quality is unprecedented for a keyboard. Yamaha's VH2 vocal harmony engine is on board to enhance your vocal performances by adding up to three virtual backing vocalists, complete with pitch correction, synth vocoder and other effects for a polished, professional sound.
Yamaha built the Genos 2 for songwriting and performance (live performances), among other things. The sleek design of the slim chassis are very appealing to the audience, but for the player, the uncluttered, no-nonsense layout is designed for unfettered creativity.
At Klundert Music, we get our hands on a lot of cutting-edge keyboard instruments, and the Genos2 has impressed the discerning keyboardists here. From its superior ergonomics and productivity-enhancing features to the unmatched quality and gigantic size of its sound set, the Yamaha Genos2 once again lays claim to the title of "ultimate performance arranger workstation."
