This damper ring of 5mm thick foam significantly reduces the volume of a kettle and is probably the best way to get an acoustic percussion for home at a workable volume. The big advantage is that the playing feel and also the tone of the kettle does not change drastically with this damper.
Also available are the Soft Sound Ring packs with damper rings for the most common configurations (10-12-14-16 or 10-12-14-14) with the silent bass drum beater also included. If you want to go one step further in muting your acoustic drum kit, then go for a set of silent cymbals as well!
