The Tama Starclassic Walnut Birch is a modern sounding and versatile drum kit. The shells consist of 4 layers of birch and 2 layers of American Black Walnut (and the kick drum of 5 layers of birch and 2 layers walnut); the perfect combination of the projection of birch and the warm mids and low end of walnut.
This Starclassic Walnut Birch is the successor to Tama's once-so-famous Starclassic Performer Birch / Bubinga. A few years ago, however, in order to preserve and protect the exotic wood species bubinga, its export and import became complicated for commercial use that Tama switched to the combination of birch and walnut. The main difference between the older version and the new one is that it gives a bit more projection and focus, has a bit less sub low-end than its predecessor but in return a very rich and complex tone. Dampers are not directly needed with this set to create a direct, fat and punchy sound.
