As far as we're concerned, the Strymon Sunset gets the honorary title of one of the best overdrives today. Not only does it sound fantastic, it's also very functional and versatile.
Let's start with the sound! Often pedals sound...well, like a pedal. Not that this is a bad thing -and in fact in many cases desirable-, but the Sunset sounds almost equivalent to the overdrive of a tube amp; very dynamic, natural and just FAT.
The design of the pedal very straight forward and user friendly while Strymon has managed to put a lot of functionality and variety of sounds on board of the Sunset. You basically have two totally separate and independently adjustable overdrives at your disposal. Channel A offers a pallet of classic overdrives (germanium diode clipping / Texas soft clipping / treble booster), which are perfect for singing and smooth overdrive tones. Channel B offers more solid and complex hard-clipping overdrives.
Channel B is therefore more aggressive and will in many cases logically function as a step up from Channel A. However, this does not have to be the case; because both channels are completely separately controllable (volume, tone and drive) and can also be switched independently, it is possible to switch between both channels, but also to stack them. In fact, with a mini-toggle switch located next to the connector panel, you can set the sequence of the two channels with respect to each other and it can also be set to a parallel routing of both channels.
And to top it off, the Sunset is equipped with a noise surpressor as a "secondary feature" (press and hold the B switch and the level parameter of channel A is your control for the noise surpressor).
The 9vDC power supply is included.
