The Sequential Prophet 5 is a legendary synthesizer. Who doesn't know the Prophet 5 rev1, rev2, and rev3.... and now this re-issue...we just call it rev 4 ! The sound of this synthesizer is so characteristic. Known from many hits by Kraftwerk, Duran Duran, Peter Gabriel, Genesis, Jean Michel Jarre, Kitaro, Vangelis and many others, this prophet is not a budget synth, but professional tools for the sound conquerors and synth nerds (that's us!)
Revange of the Synth
In terms of operation, this synth is super clear; no complicated fuss. You get two CEM-VCO oscillators per voice, with the classic analog waveforms, supplemented by a noise oscillator. You can still balance these three sources in the mixer, after which it goes to the filter (with its own envelope) and then to the volume envelope.On the left side of the control panel you have two LFOs and a section with which you can route your modulation wheel. Cool feature
forty Prophet-5 presets are included, the original sounds of forty years ago. This Prophet-5 has a nice playing keyboard by Fatar, with touch sensitive and aftertouch. There is of course MIDI and USB-MIDI. Also be sure to check out the "vintage dial," which lets you add "the unstable character of yesteryear" to your sound. And the Prophet 5 is a gem to behold. And are 5 voices not enough? The Prophet 5 also comes with 10 voices polyphonic...the Prophet 10! Fair is fair. The synth is not cheap. But the sounds are just muddy.
