The Radial ProDI is a high performance, passive mono direct box that is perfect for use with acoustic guitars, bass guitars, electric pianos and synthesizers. The ProDI's custom transformer helps deliver the highest possible performance, virtually eliminating noise problems. And like all Radial DI boxes, the ProDI is incredibly reliable and easy to use - plug in your mono instrument and instantly eliminate ground loops while enjoying rich, full sound. If you want the same excellent quality in a stereo version, Radial also offers the ProD2 stereo version.
Passive vs. active DI
The Radial ProDI is a full-range passive direct box. Active direct boxes use electronic circuits to change the impedance from hi-Z to lo-Z and balance the signal. Passive DIs, on the other hand, use a passive transformer to do this work. Active DIs require batteries, 48 V phantom power or external power supplies to power their circuits, while direct boxes equipped with a passive transformer require no power to perform their task. The advantage of a transformer over typical active circuits can be summarized as "a great device for reducing system noise" in a sound system. To accomplish the task of noise reduction, the Radial ProDI features a premium transformer and requires no batteries or power supply.
Custom Isolation Transformer
The Radial ProDI is equipped with a custom audio transformer that provides exceptional signal processing without saturation. More importantly, the ProDI's custom transformer has extremely low phase distortion in the critical bass and midrange regions. The ProDI's transformer provides 100% isolation, eliminating hum- and noise-causing ground loops while maintaining signal integrity. The ProDI also includes insulated XLR connectors, to eliminate chassis ground potential, and a military-specification circuit board with a full surface ground plane to reduce sensitivity to RF noise. The result is exceptional clarity and definition, at an attractive price.
Easy to Use
The best feature of the ProDI is its "plug and play" ease of use. All you have to do is connect the instrument to the 1/4" inputs, the 1/4" through jack to the stage amp(s) or mixer and the XLR output to the mixing console and you're done. Distortion? Hit the -15dB pad. Noise? Just press the ground elevator switch. For acoustic guitars and basses, the natural tone of the instrument will come through with a smooth and musical reproduction. For electric instruments, such as keyboards, the ProDI will instantly eliminate troublesome ground loops while delivering solid dynamics, with a full and rich sound.
Solid Construction
When you look inside a ProDI, you'll notice that the build quality is up to the highest professional standards. Radial's proven construction methods and materials guarantee years of trouble-free use - able to withstand the rigors of the most demanding, heavily used professional environments. Radial pioneered the use of the innovative "book cover" design, which forms a protective zone around the switches and connectors that keeps the components safe. The chassis and exterior of the ProDI significantly reduce the chance of torsional stress on the circuit board. Tension on circuit boards causes broken and interrupted solder joints, a common cause of failure in commercial rentals and other high-traffic environments. Non-skid rubber across the bottom provides protection from electrical shock and keeps these DIs in place.
