Don't let its small size fool you. A good microphone doesn't necessarily have to be big! With this TLM-102, Neumann has created a studio microphone in an unprecedented price range.
This is a natural sounding microphone (no nasty "smily curve") where your recording will stand up wonderfully when mixing and mastering. That's what makes the difference between a quality microphone and a Chinese one. This TLM is perfect value for money. A DvdV Favorite!
The TLM 102 defines a new generation of Neumann studio microphones. This applies not only to the microphone's design, but also to its price.
The reduced dimensions contribute to an exceptionally compact appearance that unites all the typical design components of a Neumann microphone. The harmonious proportions and the glossy grille ring ensure that the TLM 102* attracts attention even at first glance.
The TLM 102 is impressive in terms of sound: Inside, there is a newly developed large-diaphragm capsule (cardioid) with a maximum sound pressure level of 144 dB, which can be used to record, for example, percussion, drums, amplifiers and other very loud sound sources. Instruments that are not particularly loud also benefit from the TLM 102's very fast transient response. The main applications, however, are in the area of vocals and speech; a slight gain above 6 kHz provides excellent voice presence in the overall mix. Up to 6 kHz, the frequency response is extremely linear, ensuring minimal coloration and a clearly defined bass range. The capsule has an elastic suspension for the suppression of structure-borne noise. A plop screen integrated into the grille serves to suppress plosives in vocal and speech recordings.
Thanks to its price and flexible scope, the TLM 102 is ideal for home recording and project studios, as well as for broadcast, especially when a good view of the speakers is important.
The TLM 102 is available in black and nickel; a tripod mount is included.
