The Neumann MCM 114 is a professional instrument microphone for close miking of e.g. a trumpet, trombone, saxophone, French horn or percussion instruments. The MCM features Neumann's renowned electret technology and delivers a stunning 153 dB maximum SPL to capture the details of both loud and very soft instruments without adding distortion or proprietary noise. The microphone securely clamps onto your instrument and works for both wired and wireless applications: i.e., both with XLR microphone pre-amps (for studio and stage recordings) and wireless transmitters .
The Neumann MCM 114 SET WOODWINDS Cardioid Miniature Clip Mic (MCM) System is intended for musicians, sound engineers, concert venues, equipment rental companies and event production companies.
The MCM 114 SET consists of a KK 14 cardioid microphone head, a flexible 6" gooseneck and an MC 5 clip to attach the gooseneck to the instrument. You use the AC 31 cable to connect the microphone to the included MCM 100 pre-amp module. Or you connect this cable directly to your bodypack transmitter to use the microphone wirelessly.
The modular construction of the system is designed to ensure a long service life that lasts for years. Hand-assembled in Germany and meets high Neumann standards.
KK14 Capsule with Exceptional SPL Handling & Ultra-wide Dynamic Range
The MCM system is thus based on the KK 14 miniature capsule head, a 12mm diameter (small diaphragm) electret-condenser element that delivers a truly natural, neutral and reliable sound - even in challenging technical or acoustic situations.
The capsule has a cardioid directional characteristic, which helps minimize picking up crosstalk from other instruments or stage noise, while allowing high gain - before feedback occurs. Capable of handling a maximum SPL of 152 dB and a dynamic range of 130 dB, the KK 14 is ideal for close-miking of virtually any instrument, from bombastic drums to sensitive strings.
Reliable and secure microphone placement on trumpet, trombone, saxophone
The gooseneck of the 6" MCM securely holds the detachable KK 14 capsule with a connector that allows the microphone to be rotated without twisting the cable. The flexible design allows quick and precise positioning of the microphone for optimal sound recording. The built-in elastic suspension bracket is made of advanced plastic for excellent absorption of background noise (handling noise).
The MCM 114 SET BRASS/SAX/UNI comes with an MC 6 universal clamp to mount the gooseneck on the bell of a trumpet, trombone, saxophone, French horn, or on a percussion instrument. Featuring a spring mechanism, the clamp is easy to use and designed to prevent damage to sensitive surfaces on the instrument.
Flexible connectivity for wired and wireless applications
Because it uses electret-condenser technology, the MCM can operate on either +48V phantom power from a microphone preamplifier or on power from a compatible wireless transmitter (bodypack).
The AC 31 3.5 mm2 mini-jack cable can be used to connect the KK 14 to the MCM 100 pre-amp module to plug the microphone into a mixer via XLR. This AC 31 cable can also be used to connect the capsule to a wireless transmitter with a Sennheiser-compatible mic input (mini-jack).
Neumann offers three other cables that work with other popular wireless transmitters including Lectrosonics, Shure, Zaxcom, Wisycom, and others:
AC 32 cable with LEMO 3-pin connector
AC 33 cable with Microdot connector
AC 34 cable with 4-pin mini-XLR connector
Rugged modular system built for long life
The MCM is a rugged modular system. Neumann assembles the KK 14 capsule by hand and encapsulates it in a lightweight titanium housing. The gooseneck and all other components are easily replaceable, ensuring longevity for live and stage performances.
Neumann offers an extensive line of instrument-specific magnetic, clip-on, clamp, or strap mounting solutions, allowing you to customize/expand the system for use with a wide range of instruments:
MC 1: clip to mount the gooseneck on the body of a violin, viola, mandolin, and similar instruments
MC 2: clip to mount the gooseneck on the strings of a cello under the bridge
MC 3: clip to mount the gooseneck on the strings of a double bass under the bridge
MC 4: clip to mount the gooseneck on the rib/body of a double bass or similar instrument
MC 5: universal belt clip to mount the gooseneck on an oboe, clarinet, recorder, bassoon, flute or harp
MC 6: Universal clip to mount the gooseneck on the cup of a trumpet, trombone, saxophone, French horn, or on a percussion instrument or stand
MC 7: clip to mount the gooseneck on the rim of a snare, tom, upright tom or timpani
MC 8: magnetic clip to mount the gooseneck in an upright piano or grand piano
