Neumann is known worldwide for their fantastic studio microphones, but with the KMS-105 they make their quality available in an affordable handheld microphone. The KMS 105 has the same features that made the KMS 104 so successful for Neumann, but has a supercardioid polar pattern (supernier characteristic).
The KMS105's design includes a supercardioid capsule with shock-absorption and a foam-lined grille, which counteracts pop noise.... Not only is it an attractive-looking microphone, but it is also very lightweight, making it a pleasure to use during a live performance.
Compared to other handheld vocal microphones, the KMS 105 offers superior voice resolution, with extended frequency response and accurate transient detail. Sibilance problems (e.g., overpowering "s" sounds) found with other handheld condenser microphones are much less audible.
The voice is reproduced very "open" and detailed. The frequency response and built-in highpass filters are optimized for very close miking. They compensate for the proximity effect (proximity), resulting in a flat sound reproduction.
The KMS 105 features a capsule with supercardioid characteristics, providing the best back attenuation. A KMS 104 uses a capsule with cardioid (kidney) characteristics.
