Neumann is known worldwide for their fantastic studio microphones, but with the KMS-104 they make their quality available in an affordable handheld microphone. The KMS 104 has the same features that made the KMS 105 so successful for Neumann, but has a cardioid polar pattern (kidney characteristic).
The KMS104's design includes a shock-absorbing cardioid capsule and a foam-lined grille that counteracts pop noise.... Not only is it an attractive-looking microphone, but it is also very lightweight, making it a pleasure to use during a live performance.
Compared to other handheld vocal microphones, the KMS 104 offers superior voice resolution, with an extended frequency response and accurate transient detail. Sibilance problems (e.g., overpowering "s" sounds) common with other handheld condenser microphones are much less audible.
The voice is reproduced very "open" and detailed. The frequency response and built-in highpass filters are optimized for very close miking. They compensate for the proximity effect (proximity), resulting in a flat sound reproduction.
The KMS 104 features a capsule with cardioid characteristics, which provides the best back attenuation. A KMS 105 uses a capsule with supercardioid (supernier) characteristics.
