The KH 420
Neumann has provided another former Klein + Hummel (KH) product with a worthy successor! This KH 420 active three-way studio monitor is a monitor of very high, professional quality. This KH 420 is composed of a 10" LF woofer , a 3" driver (mid) and 'n 1" HF tweeter (high). The mid-driver and tweeter are mounted together in a closed baffle (with special waveguide) which provides a wide dispersion (large sweetspot!). At the back of the monitor, the KH 420 has the ability to extensively adjust the sound to the acoustic characteristics of the room. The KH 420 is intended for so-called midfield and main monitoring and is suitable for music, broadcasting and post production studios (recording, mixing and mastering).
The waveguide with Mathematically Modeled Dispersion:
The baffle (with the waveguide) in which the mid-driver and tweeter are mounted provides a dispersion/dispersion of 80 degrees horizontally and 60 degrees vertically. This therefore means a wide sweet-spot giving you more freedom of movement behind the mixing desk. The frequency response remains extremely stable across the entire width, thus delivering an accurate soundstage and a beautiful, spacious stereo image. The somewhat narrow vertical dispersion (60 degrees) reduces annoying reflections e.g. via the ceiling and the mixing desk. The baffle can be rotated 90 degrees if you want to use it horizontally.
Loud and proud
The monitor is equipped with three separate amplifiers for low, mid and high (tri-amp). These amplifiers deliver 330W for the low, 140W for the middle and 140W for the high. Due to the high power, this monitor has an SPLmax of 122.4 dB (!).
