For the first time ever, Neumann has created a dynamic microphone. The BCM 705 mt dynamic is less expensive than the BCM 104 condenser version, and thus will address the problem of the huge cost burden of equipping a studio with multiple microphones. The Neumann BCM 705 is also designed as a great broadcast microphone, but can also handle vocal jobs in the studio. Looking for a fat American radio sound? Then you must have this microphone!
This BCM 705 mt comes in a matte black color finish (identified by the -mt addition to the type number). The BCM 705 mt also comes in a nickel finish, the BCM 705.
Smart housing
The BCM 705 mt uses a redesigned version of the Profi Power Sennheiser MD 431 handheld stage microphone and capsule. Housed in the same housing as the previously introduced BCM 104, the BCM 705 is immediately recognizable as a Neumann dynamic microphone by its new "green" Neumann logo. The BCM 705 required a major overhaul of the production steps of the original MD 431 capsule. This was necessary to reduce tolerances in both frequency response and sensitivity to meet the specifications for this new microphone.
Nice low
To improve low-frequency reproduction, the entire construction around the capsule in the BCM 705 mt has been enlarged and acoustically coupled to an input port at the rear. Although the BCM 705 is intended for close miking, there is relatively little buildup of low frequencies due to the proximity effect. This also makes the microphone a perfect choice for those who prefer to work a little further from the source but still want to maintain good, solid bass response.
The BCM 705 mt uses the mesh (pop) screen principle as in the KMS 105 and BCM 104 microphones, eliminating the need for foam in front of the capsule (as originally used in the MD 431). Resistance to p(l)ops is greatly improved, but not at the expense of good, clear response at high frequencies. As with the BCM 104, the integrated plop screen can be removed for cleaning without tools. Individual, color-coded main grilles are available separately (inquire for details).
Finally, Neumann has redesigned the mechanical suspension of the capsule to reduce the microphone's sensitivity to tripod noise or shock. The microphone in its mount is elastically suspended and compatible with all standard broadcast microphone arms.
