Neumann released the BCM 104 with broadcast professionals in mind. The BCM 104 has become a microphone suitable not only for broadcasters and podcasters, but also for music recording engineers who want to capture vocals and instruments with stunning clarity, presence and authority. Tip from the Klundert enginears: if you want to enrich your studio with the inimitable "Neumann sound," the BCM 104 is the perfect addition to your microphone cabinet!
This Neumann BCM 104 comes in a nickel color finish. There is also a black version available, the Neumann BCM 104 mt.
Capture every source in detail
Neumann is known for its large-diaphragm condenser capsules, and the capsule used in the BCM 104 is specifically designed to capture voice without coloration or unwanted background noise. The microphone has a fixed cardioid polar pattern with excellent off-axis rejection. Its linear frequency response has a gentle presence boost around 4kHz, and a subtle shelf boost above 10kHz to improve intelligibility. The microphone's excellent transient response is optimized to capture every nuance of the human voice in brilliant detail. The BCM 104's wide frequency response makes it perfect for much more than just speech applications - it's also great on sung vocals and acoustic instruments.
Integrated pop screen prevents pops and protects capsule
The BCM 104 features an integrated pop screen that prevents p(l)oping in vocal recordings and also effectively protects the diaphragm from moisture and particle contamination - a common problem with vocal microphones. The pop screen can be easily removed for cleaning without the use of tools.
Silent circuitry with high SPL processing
The BCM 104's electronic circuitry has an extremely low self-noise of only 7dBA and can handle high sound pressure levels up to 138dB without distortion. The balanced output operates without a transformer to ensure minimal interference and excellent common-mode reduction of external signals. A subsonic filter suppresses frequencies below 20 Hz. A switchable 100Hz high-pass filter compensates for the proximity effect, and there is also a 14dB pre-attenuation pad to reduce the microphone output level, allowing you to use it with a wide range of preamplifiers. The filter and pad switches are accessible from the inside of the microphone housing, as these options are usually only selected once, during setup. The BCM 104's impressive sensitivity and robust 152dB SPL (with the pad enabled) increase the versatility of this great microphone, making it ideal for capturing everything from the softest whispers to loud audio sources.
