BLOWOUT SALE!
Martin's Standard Series guitars have been setting the tone for some 200 years and will continue to do so for the next 200. You'll find here all the iconic models that have been so indicative of Martin as the premier brand and the "acoustic flattop" in general. And there's nothing standard about the Standard Series; each guitar is handmade in the USA in the time-honored Martin tradition. Whether you go for an 18 or a 40, an OO or a D, each one has that traditional, dry and woody character so unmistakable to that signature Martin sound.
The D-18 unintentionally takes a bit of a back seat to its youngest brother within the Standard Series. Possibly because it is the most affordable type in the lineup, but is in no way inferior to the iconic (and more expensive) D-28. They are simply different with the main difference being the sides and back; the D-28 uses rosewood, this D-18 uses mahogany. And that produces a significant difference in sound. The bombastic of the D28 gives way to a very pleasant mid-projection and a powerful low. The sound is a bit more "in-your-face" which is great for fingerstyle playing and the dynamics that can be created with it.
Another difference with the D-28 is the external appearance; the D-18 has -again according to tradition- a very sober look and thus you will not find any flashy bindings or other trappings on this old soul.
