Martin's Standard Series guitars have set the tone for about 200 years and will continue to do so for the next 200 to come. Here you'll find all of the iconic models that have defined Martin as the premier brand and the "acoustic flattop" in general. And there's really nothing standard about the Standard Series; every guitar is handcrafted in the USA and according to Martin's long line of tradition. Whether you go for an 18 or a 40, an 00 or a D, they all have that traditional, dry, woody character that is so unmistakable for that signature Martin sound.
The 18 series guitars have all the honor of opening the Standard Series. That said, an 18 is in no way inferior to the iconic (and more expensive) 28 series guitars. They are simply different with the main difference being the side and back; the 28's have rosewood, this 00-18 have mahogany.
If you are going for a bombastic sound, you'll love a dreadnought. If you are looking for more subtlety and dynamics on the other hand, then a smaller body-shape might be a great choice. The responsiveness of this 00 is fantastic. For a fingerstyle player, this guitar is absolutely amazing! Yet the tone balance and particularly the powerful low end are also very impressive. Because of the somewhat shorter scale, the sound is nice and "lazy" and mellow. Very nice!
