The Heil PR 40 B is a dynamic microphone. This is the version in the color black. The microphone has a wide frequency range and can therefore be used for many purposes. It is true workhorse for the professional sound engineer.
The PR40 has a flat, neutral frequency response from 28 Hz to 18 kHz. You can use the microphone for vocals, drums (especially toms), kick drum, guitar and bass amplification, among others. Among live and studio engineers, the PR 40 is known as a workhorse among dynamic large diaphragm microphones. The PR-40 comes with a cast metal microphone clamp, in a case.
Wide dynamic range
The large size and low mass of the microphone element, combined with a powerful NdFeB magnet structure, give the microphone the ability to handle high SPLs while providing a wide dynamic range.
Cardioid pickup pattern
The microphone has 4 "rear ports" designed to cancel out off-axis noise, giving it a very tight cardioid pickup pattern.
Internal shockmount
The internal mount (made by Sorbothane) decouples the microphone element from the housing, reducing the effects of handling noise.
The microphone is a so-called end-fire model (also known as Top-Address), which means that the sound is picked up at the head of the microphone.
