Despite Dingwall's uncompromising build quality, its always a thrilling wait for the end-result of a custom spec'ed instrument. Will it turn out as pictured...well, this one got knocked out of the park BIG TIME by Dingwall and turned out even better as we imagined. What a unique, tastefull yet exiting, crazy build this is!
Check out this stunning active 5-string Super J that is packed with exiting options! We selected a very unique flamed walnut top from Dingwall's exclusive woodroom collection and contrasted its gorgeous natural look with a Pelham Blue back. No pickguard, as we obviously want to see as much as possible from this nice top wood.
The neck is made from 5-piece laminated maple with a wenge fingerboard, banjo frets and features classy, traditional white pearloid dots. The fully blacked out headstock is an option that Dingwall no longer offers, but very kindly made an exeption for us on this bass (which looks absolutely killer next to the dark wenge board and black hardware!). The scale on a Super J ranges from 32" to 35", which is slightly less dramatic compared to the Z or Afterburner models, but all the more traditional. Allong with it, we requested a two pickup, classic J-Bass set up of two Dingwall FDV pickups for a nice mid-projected tone. For its pre-amp, we went with the active Glockenklank 3-band EQ (passive switchable). See pictures attached for control set up and configuration.
