Meet the Bourgeois Touchstone series, a collection of hand-built guitars designed by icon, Dana Bourgeois. These guitars are crafted with Bourgeois' distinctive attention to detail, bringing his legendary sound and craftsmanship to more players than ever before.
Drawing on his half-century of experience as a luthier, Dana and his team carefully select Alaskan Sitka Spruce for the tops and Adirondack Spruce for the bracings, deep from the northern woods of Maine.
The Touchstone series is a very close collaboration between Bourgeois Guitars and Eastman Music Company. After the Touchstone tops are prepared by Dana, they are vacuum-sealed and shipped to Eastman's workshop, where a select group of Eastman's luthiers-carefully trained by Dana Bourgious himself in tonal philosophy and construction methodology-integrates the tops into Dana's designs and brings each guitar to life. The Bourgeois and Eastman collaboration proves to be a brilliant move. The result is the ultimate blend of exceptional quality at an exceptional price. The Touchstone guitars can rightly be called true hi-end-players guitars and leave many of the established players perhaps very far behind.
The Bourgeois Limited Edition D Hawaiian Country Boy Touchstone is a masterfully crafted acoustic guitar that showcases the best of what Bourgeois has to offer: impeccable craftsmanship, stunning aesthetics, and tonal brilliance. With its combination of premium tonewoods, thoughtful design, and high-end appointments, this guitar is a dream come true for any serious player or collector.
At the heart of this instrument is a Bearclaw Sitka Spruce top, which immediately grabs attention with its striking visual character. The distinctive “bearclaw” figure adds a unique, wavy grain pattern to the spruce, making each guitar one-of-a-kind. But beyond its beauty, Sitka spruce is known for its versatility and dynamic range. Whether you’re playing delicate fingerpicking passages or digging in with a flatpick, the Bearclaw Sitka spruce top delivers an expansive, balanced sound with both warmth and clarity. The top’s responsiveness ensures that every nuance of your playing comes through with exceptional articulation.
The Koa back and sides elevate this guitar to another level of visual and tonal splendor. Koa is a tonewood deeply tied to the Hawaiian guitar-making tradition, prized for its golden hues and stunning grain patterns. Tonally, Koa offers the perfect blend of warmth, midrange punch, and sparkling highs. As the guitar opens up over time, the Koa will develop an even richer, more resonant tone, making this guitar a true lifetime instrument. The balance between the warmth of the koa and the clarity of the spruce top makes this guitar versatile across genres, excelling in everything from fingerstyle to strumming.
The Adirondack Spruce bracing further enhances the guitar’s tonal capabilities. Adirondack spruce is revered for its strength and lightness, allowing the top to vibrate more freely while still providing structural integrity. The result is a guitar with impressive projection, dynamic range, and sustain. Whether you’re playing in a quiet setting or trying to be heard in a louder mix, this guitar has the power and subtlety to handle it all. The bracing pattern optimizes resonance, ensuring that every note you play is full, rich, and clear.
The Ziricote binding is a luxurious touch that adds both beauty and durability to the instrument. Known for its deep, rich color and dramatic grain patterns, ziricote provides a striking contrast against the golden koa and bearclaw spruce. This binding not only protects the edges of the guitar but also enhances its visual appeal, making the guitar as much a work of art as it is an instrument.
The Ebony fingerboard and bridge provide a perfect blend of functionality and elegance. Ebony is highly prized for its durability, smooth feel, and tonal clarity. The fingerboard feels incredibly comfortable under your fingers, offering a fast, effortless playing experience whether you’re playing complex chord progressions or intricate lead lines. The ebony bridge enhances sustain and string-to-body energy transfer, giving the guitar a rich, resonant sound with exceptional tonal depth.
