The SY-1 transforms any guitar or bass into a versatile synthesizer that is fun, inspiring and ready to play immediately. This super cool pedal relies on advanced technology first developed for the SY-300. It delivers a huge selection of analog synthesizer sounds and takes up minimal space in your board. In addition, all sounds are polyphonic, allowing you to play solo notes as well as chords.
The SY-1 can be used with any guitar or bass via a standard 1/4-inch cable: for a simple, plug-and-play experience. Thanks to the custom-built DSP and the latest BOSS innovations, the SY-1 offers latency-free operation; like a natural extension of your instrument. This allows you to play freely and organically without having to change your normal technique: on any level.
With its 11 categories and 121 sounds in total, the SY-1 puts a huge range of synth colors at your fingertips. Expressive leads, sweeping pads, layered organs, fat basses and more are provided; as well as a variety of rhythmic synth patterns that are great for jamming. And the grab-ready Tone/Rate and Depth knobs let you adjust each synth voice to your liking, including changing the pitch of some sounds.
Since the SY-1 functions as a standard BOSS compact pedal, you can integrate it into a serial pedal-chain just like any other stompbox. But with the send/return loop and dedicated mix controls, it's also possible to insert one or more pedals in parallel with the SY-1's synthesizer-voices. For example, you can patch drive pedals into the loop, then send the combined output to the mod, delay and reverb pedals for general processing. The send can also be used as a direct output, allowing you to send synth and guitar sounds to different destinations.
The SY-1 offers a number of ways to make your synth performances even more dynamic and expressive. Pressing and holding the pedal switch keeps the last synth sound played, so you can jam over it with a regular guitar. You can also connect an external footswitch for tap tempo and octave-shift effects, or connect an expression pedal for continuous Tone/Rate control.
