To meet the requirements of accurate reproduction in the low frequency range, EVE has developed a 3" woofer combined with a 1" voice coil that can handle a longer linear excursion. With a voice coil 16 mm high, a linear excursion of ±5 mm is easily achieved. However, this requires a suitable multilayer paper diaphragm material that can withstand such rigorous use while maintaining consistency.
After numerous careful tests, coated paper proved to be the very best solution to meet this demand for low resonance, stability and transmission linearity. From then on, the entire structural design met all the necessary requirements that such small woofers usually entail, including a chassis basket that is air-permeable to minimize distortions. The large driver magnet acts as a powerful "motor" to keep the woofer stable, even in borderline areas.
A passive radiator - which you could think of simply as a passive speaker moving by the force of air - at the rear of the SC203 enhances low-frequency reproduction and allows the speaker response to drop to an impressive 62Hz (-3dB) with very low distortion.
Each SC203 setup is configured as a 2-way master-slave system and features four power amplifiers. Each woofer and tweeter gets its own 30W PWM amplifier with separate filter section for precise control. And for optimal connectivity, the SC203 has three inputs -- analog RCA, digital optical and USB -- so you can easily connect a wide range of sources. Plus, a volume-controlled subwoofer output lets you connect an additional subwoofer (TS107 and TS108) to the main speaker and create a powerful 2.1 system. A DIP switch on the rear panel of the speaker allows you to select the SC203 to operate as "satellites" from 80Hz or as full range units.
