In addition to its prestigious Canadian custom shop instruments, Dingwall also offers a series of basses in the more affordable "Ready to Play" series. There you will find three models; Combustion, Combustion NG and the D-Roc. The "regular" Combustion (the Combustion NG is the signature model of Adam "Nolly" Getgood) can be considered the most versatile "centerpiece" of the collection.
The body is made of swamp ash and has -in most cases- a quilt maple veneer top. The 5-piece maple neck has a choice of a maple or a pau ferro fingerboard, stainless steel frets and of course you will find the multiscale setup on this bass as well. Standard on all Combustions is the active EMG preamp with -two or three- Dingwall FD-3N pickups. The two pickup configurations can be set up as a humbucker (side by side) or as a Jazz Bass (like Dingwall's Super-J). Combustion basses are available as 4-, 5- or 6-string.
Compared to the NG variant, the Combustion is the more versatile of the two and works perfectly in a variety of genres; the combination of the tonewood and the EMG preamp creates a somewhat richer and broader sound palette, while the NG is great if you're looking for a punchy and aggressive tone (perfect for the application the NG was designed for; metal). Additionally, the Combustion has a more traditional look and is available in several stylish colors.
Anyway, the bass response and tightness is insane on any Dingwall thanks to the multiscale setup
