The Arturia BeatStep Black Edition USB pad controller is a compact PAD controller with 16 pressure- and touch-sensitive pads and 16 rotary encoders. The layout of the control panel is clear and the LED lighting behind the pads makes everything easily visible on a dark stage.
In controller mode you use the BeatStep to play various drum sounds, it is then really just a typical MIDI controller just like a keyboard is. In SEQ (sequencer) mode, the functionality of the pads changes to that of a steptime sequencer. You use the 16 rotary encoders to change the pitch of a step.
You can store up to 16 sequencer patterns in the Beatstep. The pads can also be used as MIDI CC buttons, notes or program and bank changes. The transport buttons are suitable to start/stop MMC controllers or MIDI-CC oo a DAW. The BeatStep supports CV/Gate-out so you can also control your vintage synthesizers.
